Candidate Biographies - 2016 Election

The offices of Chair, Chair-Elect, Secretary, and Treasurer are on the ballot.


Chair


1) Mary K. Lynch (Senior Engineer & Instructor, Con Edison, Inc.)

Mary began her Chemical Engineering career with the U.S. Army. She worked on equipment upgrade projects for munitions production facilities. She joined Con Edison in 1985 and has had multiple assignments in the Power Generation and Engineering Departments. She is an expert in boiler water and cooling water chemistry and in tribology (study of lubricants and wear metals). While at Con Edison, she has lead many investigations into corrosion processes and reasons for equipment failures and worked on many R&D projects. She is currently a Senior Instructor for Con Edison. She has a B.E. degree in Chemical Engineering from the Cooper Union.

Chair-Elect

1) Dr. Herbert W. Cooper (President, Dynalytics Corp.)

Dr. Herbert W. Cooper’s experience includes the economic, technological, environmental and other regulatory aspects of a wide variety of chemical and energy facilities. He is President of Dynalytics Corp. (www.Dynalytics.com) and is also former Chair, Metro New York Section, AIChE. He volunteered as the Vice-Chair in November 2015 to fill that vacancy.

2) James Galloway (Senior Manager, Pfizer Inc.)

James Galloway works for Pfizer Global Engineering’s “Process Engineering and Analytics” team at their New York City headquarters. James was hired by Pfizer in 1999. From 1999 to 2004, James was a technical lead for several of Pfizer’s large-scale API-manufacturing facility-automation projects in Puerto Rico and Singapore. From 2004 to 2009, James led Pfizer’s Global API Automation team responsible for coordinating automation strategies across 14 API manufacturing sites, developing internal standards for use of next generation control systems, developing an automation approach for biotech API manufacturing, and supporting key projects through extended assignments in Puerto Rico, England, Ireland, Singapore, and Sweden.

In 2009, he moved into Pfizer Global Engineering’s “Process Engineering and Analytics” team to broaden his technical expertise within Pfizer. In this role, James provides expert process-engineering support for the application of new manufacturing technologies, leverages his multi-discipline expertise in process and controls to guide Pfizer’s Smart Manufacturing strategy, and provides process-engineering support for critical projects and troubleshooting efforts.

James is a native of the Metro New York area, being born in Queens, and raised in Teaneck, NJ. He was graduated from Cornell University with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering in 1994. His first chemical engineering job was a co-op position at Dow Chemical, in Midland, MI, where he did process troubleshooting and optimization, at both lab and production scales for their Applied Organics and Functional Polymer Research group. He has been an active member of the local AIChE’s Metro New York Section, and is the host for most of the local section’s dinner meetings at Pfizer in recent years.

Secretary

1) Chris Maier (Refinery Consultant, retired)

Chris’s career spans nearly 40 years of experience in the technical, economic and commercial aspects of the world-wide downstream petroleum industry. He has a track record of analytical ability, innovation and growth that has progressed from process design and service, through product sales and marketing, into market analysis, project evaluation and commercial consulting.

As Chair of the Tappan Zee Section in the late 1990s, Chris was instrusmental in creating and organizing career mentoring programs for ChE students and peer career guidance workshops. He became a Director of the Metro New York Section in September 2015. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical) from the City College, and an M.B.A. from Manhattan College.


2) Scott J. Price (Regional Services Manager, UOP LLC)

Scott J. Price is currently Regional Services Manager for UOP LLC (Universal Oil Products, headquartered in Des Plaines, IL), a leading international supplier and licensor of process technology, catalysts, adsorbents, process plants, and consulting services to the petroleum refining, petrochemical, and gas processing industries. He has worked for UOP since 1991, previously in the Experimental Development, Field Operating Services, and Technical Services Departments. UOP is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Honeywell International, Inc. Scott is a B.S. (Engineering) graduate of the University of Michigan, and was awarded an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago.


Treasurer

1) Andrew Sung (Environmental Engineer, AMC Engineering, PLLC)

Andrew Sung is an environmental engineer at AMC Engineering, PLLC, a MBE Chemical and Environmental Engineering Consulting firm. His experience includes regulatory and permitting aspects of environmental and chemical related activities, such as dewatering for construction projects.

Andrew served as President of the AIChE Student Chapter at Stony Brook University for the 2013-2014 academic school year, and is currently the Outreach Coordinator for Students and Young Professionals of the AIChE, Metro New York Section.
